The Programme
Next Steps Sheffield is a webinar series, which aims to give Year 11 and 12 students from Sheffield the tools to make a competitive application to Oxford/Cambridge run collaboratively by Magdalen College, Oxford, and Emmanuel College, Cambridge. The programme will being this term when we will be offering two ‘Introducing Oxbridge’ webinars (one for Year 11, one for Year 12), and offering suggestions as to the next steps students can take. There will then be two further webinars in 2021 for Year 12s.
- Year 11 webinar – Monday 16th November, 4.30-5.30pm
- Year 12 webinar – Wednesday 18th November, 4.30-5.30pm
- Dates of 2 further Year 12 webinars to be confirmed in Spring
If you cannot attend live, please apply, and we will send you the recording. However, they recommend that if you can, attending live is preferable, as you will be able to participate & ask questions.

How Do I Apply?
The webinars are open to state educated students from Sheffield who identify with one or more of our criteria here:
- Care-experienced
- Eligible for Free School Meals in the last six years
- Live in area with low level of progression to HE (as determined by home postcode)
- Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic
- Estranged
- Young Carers
- Those who would be the first generation of their family to progress to higher education.
This list is not exhaustive so there will also be an opportunity to inform them of your individual circumstances, if you believe you should be considered but do not meet any of the above criteria. We will consider applicants from independent schools, provided they meet listed criteria, so please let us know of your circumstances if this is the case.
They will then be running two webinars in February-April of next year, which will discuss study skills & application to Oxbridge. Year 12s who attend their first webinar this term will be contacted about these. If this year’s pilot programme is successful, they will encourage this year’s Year 11 participants to get involved again next year.
