Event: University of Sheffield Taster – Physics: The Physics behind Medical Imaging
Friday 9th December, 10.15am - 2.30pm
University of Sheffield Department of Physics is offering a Medical Physics taster day for A Level students studying physics and maths.
Principles of physics and mathematics are deeply embedded in a variety of medical procedures and techniques. During this taster day you will learn about the absorption of electromagnetic waves and their uses in medical imaging techniques such as radiography. As well as sampling life as a student studying physics at University of Sheffield, you will have the opportunity to experience hands-on practical work, develop transferable skills, learn more about career pathways and speak with our student ambassadors who are currently studying with us.
It would be useful to bring a smartphone to be used in the first practical session. A light meter app can be downloaded onto it – instructions to follow.
Suitable for Year 12 and 13, this taster is suitable for students interested in a degree in physics, who are studying A Level (or equivalent) Physics and Mathematics and are anticipating a grade B or above in these subjects.
