University of Sheffield Taster – Biosciences: The Biology of Ageing

Event: University of Sheffield Taster – Biosciences: The Biology of Ageing

Thursday 10th November 2022, 4.00pm - 5.45pm

Ageing is one of the biggest challenges, and opportunities, facing our world. During ageing, all physiology breaks down in an unpredictable way. But does this mean we’ll never be able to understand the mechanisms of ageing and extend our lifespan? Or could it mean that treating ageing will cure many age-related diseases at the same time?

This University of Sheffield taster session will be led by Dr Mirre Simons, a leading researcher in the field of ageing. It will cover the biology of ageing and give you the chance to learn about the recent progress that’s been made in understanding the science of ageing from both an evolutionary and biomedical perspective. You’ll also have the chance to talk to some current undergraduate students and a member of the admissions team, who’ll be on hand to answer any queries you might have about studying the biosciences at university.

Suitable for year 12 and 13. This virtual taster session is suitable for students interested in a degree in Biology/Biosciences, who are studying A Level (or equivalent) Biology/Human Biology and another science* and are anticipating a grade B or above in these subjects.
