Event: Isn’t It Cold! – Science Show (Key Stages 2 and 3)


Strange things happen to everyday objects when they get very, very cold. The University of Sheffield team will deflate balloons, shatter flowers, and reveal the amazing things you can do when you go to -196 C using liquid nitrogen. An exciting show for primary and secondary school children.

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand how temperature can affect the properties of materials Explore energy transfers and changes of state
  • Think about how understanding heat and temperature affects our daily lives

Requirements: This activity needs to be performed in a school hall or similar, a classroom is not suitable. A minimum of 2 meters distance is required between the presenter and the audience.

Please note the team can only travel within their local area of South Yorkshire, and during periods of high demand they will prioritise schools in areas with low progression to university.
