From Breakfast Club to Courtroom: a story of long-term impact
Shannon’s journey is a powerful example of how early enrichment opportunities can shape confidence, curiosity, and career pathways far beyond childhood.
As a Children’s University member, Shannon took part in a wide range of activities – from Breakfast Club and creative arts to sports and drama. At the time, these experiences were simply enjoyable. Looking back, they helped develop key skills such as communication, teamwork, confidence, and a positive attitude to learning.
Today, Shannon works as a Paralegal and is completing a Masters in Professional Legal Practice, studying part-time alongside full-time work. She credits her early experiences with helping her feel confident in presenting, collaborating, and stepping outside her comfort zone – skills she now uses every day in her professional life.
This case study highlights the long-term value of early enrichment and the importance of creating opportunities that allow young people to explore, belong, and build confidence – often without even realising it at the time.
