Think Climate – Inspiring Climate Action Together!
During the 2024/25 academic year, South Yorkshire Children’s University worked with local CU managers, schools and partners across the region to deliver Think Climate! Project in a Box – an engaging programme that helped children and young people learn about climate change, sustainability and the positive actions they can take in their everyday lives.
Developed through partnership with Sheffield Hallam University experts, Think Climate! Project in a Box gave schools a practical and flexible set of enrichment resources that were easy to use and adapt. Through a series of themed sessions, pupils explored topics such as carbon footprint, insulation and composting while building confidence, curiosity and teamwork skills along the way.
A key focus of the programme was helping children and young people feel empowered rather than overwhelmed. By focusing on local actions and real world solutions, the project supported pupils to understand that everyone has a role to play in protecting the planet – and that small changes can make a big difference.
CU schools across South Yorkshire delivered the programme throughout the year and came together at a celebratory end event in summer 2025, with pupils reflecting on what they had learned and sharing their ideas for a more sustainable future. Working together with partners helped bring the project to life, creating meaningful learning experiences that connected climate education with children’s voices and aspirations.
